Summative (Impact) Evaluation

It is a type of evaluation that occurs at the end of a learning period. It assesses student learning and provides a final grade for a student’s performance. They are more reliable than formative evaluations.

It is formal in nature.

Example: Semester Exams, Board Exam, Final Grades etc.

Formative Evaluation

It is a type of evaluation that assesses the development or progress of a course to improve its effectiveness. It is done during the learning period to provide feedback to students as well as teachers so that the necessary changes can be made.

Example: Test, Quizzes, discussions, etc.
